In this section Onion looks at the crazy, the shocking and the damn right hysterical quotes from the pages of Onion. To kick it off Onion looks back at the war of words between two of Oz hip hop’s most vocal MCs.

In 2007 Obese Records was (and still is) riding high. Lyrical Commission’s Brad Strut had a spray at the label when discussing his track Monopoly in Issue 57 of 2007.

“If there’s people into Australian hip hop that don’t have a clue what the fuck is going on - wake up yo! There’s one company that wants to run the whole shit and if you wanna be a hip hop artist in that country you better get aligned with them or you’re not going to go fucking anywhere with it. So, there is a monopoly in full effect mate and if you don’t think so then you’re fucking living in fairyland mate. The song had to be made and there’s going to be more made because of what is going to go down now. When are people going to wake the fuck up? And it’s not just artists, it’s the people that make the industry roll: it’s the radio station programmers, it’s the magazine editors, it’s the fucking everything. Of course there’s a monopoly in effect mate, open your eyes and ears people.”

Obese’s CEO Pegz responded two issues later: 

“It’s just perceived that way because of the Hoods’ success. We’ve got five people in the office right now running a label, looking after 20 to 30 distribution artists and a dozen signed artists. We are an extremely small operation … You’ve just got to look out there to see there are a variety of labels doing well. Have a look at Elefant Traks, Shogun Since gone: Ed, Crookneck Records - everybody’s flourishing … Little Brad Strut’s mouth is going to get him in trouble.”
